8-Shot Evaluation

My 8-Shot journey was the thing i least enjoyed doing, i feel we were thrown in at the deep end because we were given alot of information in a small amount of time, i feel mine was rushed, this was probably also to do with the fact it was our first project so we were the first group to do it.
We had to film 8 different shots of someone travelling from one place to another, based on the story boards we had to draw, on these story boards we had to explain the location and the type of shot.
Mine is lucy travelling from the steps outside college to the venders. The reasons why i didnt like doing the 8-Shot Journey is because as we worked in groups of 2 that it was difficult to do both 8-shot journeys in the amount of time we were given, also it was difficult to get good shots as there were alot of people about, i especially had trouble with the lift shot, as so many people were using the lifts! And to begin with i wasnt familiar with the camera i wouldve preferred to be told in more detail about how to use it as i had never used one before. As we chose to do mine second i feel we were a bit restless and rushing to get it finished as there were so many rubbish shots, which wasnt so great.

But overall i feel for a first attempt mine turned out okay, the shots linked well together, in future i will remember NOT to use lifts or vending machines :P!
I dont feel we had enough time, so it was all too rushed. But other than okay for my first project :)!

Audio evaluation!

Overall I was quite pleased with the outcome of my jingles and promo, considering it was a first go at audio production, but there are quite allot of things that gave me set backs on making my pieces as good as I had wanted them.
Firstly I had never used an apple Mac before so we had to learn to use the software in a limited amount of time and trying to produce good work with limited knowledge was difficult.
At one point I had issues with my microphone which didn’t get sorted for around an hour which was quite irritating as I couldn’t do much else in this time!
Overall I thought sound booth was quite good and beside the pitch of my show promo messing up I was fairly pleased.

My show promo took the longest to do and is still unfinished, I chose 5 tracks and mixed them together with some dialogue, the dialogue isn’t clear and I would have preferred to have had a hand held microphone or a private space to record speech as its quite off putting recording your dialogue parts in front of a whole class as obviously its hard to get a time when everyone is quiet, and essentially quite embarrassing when trying to get a really good bit of enthusiastic radio speech. I had trouble with the pitch on mine as the voices got changed, I have no idea how it happened so it was hard to try and correct it, I noticed the more I played around with my piece the more unhappy I was with it, and that’s probably why its still not perfected.

The show ident was easy as I did this after my show promo, I should have probably have chosen to do my show promo last as I would’ve had more experience with the equipment. For my show ident I used garage band to get my music it was really simple and I just chose a cheesy jingle that would stick in people’s heads.
Similarly I used garage band for my radio jingle to choose the music Neil did the dialogue and I preferred him doing it as he has a better voice for radio speech. :)

Below is my show promo... i was unable to upload my jingle and my show ident!

Pinhole Camera's

Pinhole Camera’s

To produce our photo’s we made a pinhole camera. To make our pinhole camera we had to bring in a light tight tin/box and paint the inside black and cover up any gaps that may let in light with gaffer tape. Then we made a hole in the side, and then covered it with foil and made a pinhole through the foil, then made a small door like feature to open and close over the pinhole.
To take a photo we had to measure the amount of time we let the light enter through the hole for inside and outside conditions. To do this we had to work out the f-stop of our individual cameras, which was simply the focal length divided by the diameter of the pinhole, mine was 75mm/0.8mm.

In the dark room you have to put your photographic paper in your camera before you set out. To develop our photo’s we also had to take them out of our camera in the dark room, put them in the developer until your happy with your image, in the fixer for a minute and a half and then into the cleaner.

My first photo was over exposed so I then went on to change the amount of time I let light in. And in the end came out with a few clear images that I was very pleased with.

Basics we learnt about cameras/photography:

Shutter – In photography, a shutter is a device that allows light to pass for a determined period of time, for the purpose of exposing photographic film or a light-sensitive electronic sensor to light to capture a permanent image of a scene.

Aperture- in optics, an aperture is a hole or an opening through which light travels. In photography this can be measured in increments called f-stops.

Lens- The lens of a camera captures the light from the subject and brings it to focus on the film or detector.

Exposure control- The size of the aperture and the brightness of the scene controls the amount of light that enters the camera during a period of time, and the shutter controls the length of time that the light hits the recording surface.
Equivalent exposures can be made with a larger aperture and a faster shutter speed or a corresponding smaller aperture and with the shutter speed slowed down.

Photographic paper- is paper coated with light-sensitive chemicals, used for making photographic prints.

My photo's :)

These are the positive and negatives of the photo's!

These first set are outside shots of the college, this had a 10 second exposure, i like this one best out of the lot as its the most clear!

Welcommmmeeeee!

hiya, i'm sophie.
This is pretty much a blog of all my media stuff
you will find my initial projects on here.
Have fun ;)!
